Pilots-N-Paws: Rescued Dogs Fly To Freedom!

September 12, 2009

Hi Everyone!

September 12th to the 20th will be a week 5,000 of my fellow dogs will always remember!   For one, they will be flying in an airplane–most likely for the first time–but most importantly, it will be their flight to freedom.

Rommel And His Pilot Patrick

Rommel And His Pilot Patrick

Debi Boies is the co-founder of Pilots-N-Paws, a group of dedicated animal lover pilots who volunteer to fly dogs who are facing imminent demise to loving homes and no-kill shelters.  In an interview with Kate Snow of Good Morning America, Debi Boies said Pilots-N-Paws hopes to fly 5,000 animals this week.  The average trip costs about $2,000 per dog, but it’s tax deductible.  5,000 animals and a million smiles!

Pilots-N-Paws has already rescued thousands of animals.  Their stories are told in three incredible photo albums:  Album 1, Album 2, and Album 3.  Rommel’s voyage, “Saving Rommel,”  was also documented on YouTube and it’s worth watching!

So, if you don’t have an airplane and can’t volunteer for this outstanding mission, take your bike, take your car, the bus, or simply your feet.  There are many of us who would love a home today.  You have to take the first step.

Lovingly,

Every Rescued Dog Has A Tale

August 30, 2009

Hi Everyone!

About a week ago I started twittering. It’s a lot of fun and I’ve already made some very good friends. It’s really interesting to hear about the daily lives of my fellow dogs (and cats and other creatures), especially their deep thoughts and funny jokes.

One of my new friends, Wookie, is the dog of author Deb Eades, who has written a beautiful collection of anectdotes about rescued dogs: “Every Rescued Dog Has A Tale: Stories From The Dog Rescue Railroad.” All proceeds from the sale of her book are donated to rescue shelters. That is so awesome!

I have found that many of my new Twitter friends are rescue dogs, too. We are all born to love and to be loved…and all we want is a loving home.

Here’s to all of those, who are still waiting.  May your wish of a happy home soon come true!

Lovingly,

Who Will Be The Next Official White House Dog? An Open Letter To Malia And Sasha Obama

November 9, 2008
Dear Sasha and Malia:

It’s soooo cool that you will soon be welcoming a new member to your family!  I totally agree with you:  dogs are great addition!  It’s going to be a tough decision, I’m sure, because there are so many of us and so many that would love a home…white, pink, blue or whatever!   But I know your white house will be a little more special and your new pooch will probably enjoy some extra benefits–like chef-cooked meals…  Soooo lucky!!!

I don’t know what your options are, but I just did a search under Google and found lots of animal shelters in the Washington D.C. area, like the Washington Humane Society or the Washington Animal Rescue that may have that special “someone” you’ve been wishing for.  I thought I’d tell you–just in case.

In the meantime, I’ve put together for you a Presidential Dog Gallery so that your new friend can check out his or her former predecessors.
